Davina Swift is a Nevermoorian toddler, the youngest child of Dave and Catriona Swift and younger sister of Helena, Homer, and Hawthorne Swift. As of Winter of Two, Third Age of Aristocrats, Davina is mentioned to be almost three years old.

Biography[]

Davina was born into the Swift family as the youngest of four children, likely in the earlier half of Eleven, Second Age of the Aristocrats. While she would hardly see her older sister Helena, who was away studying at Gorgonhowl College of Radical Meteorology, she would have her older brothers Homer and Hawthorne at home.

During Summer of Two, Third Age of Aristocrats, she accompanied her family and Morrigan Crow to the Nevermoor Bazaar. In winter of that year, her older sister would make it home for the Christmas holidays and they would attend the Battle of Christmas Eve together. On the way home, Davina, Hawthorne, and Morrigan—who were separated from the rest of the Swift family—would almost be attacked by a leopardwun that was infected with Hollowpox. Thanks to the quick actions of others, the three of them remained unharmed, and in Baby Dave's case, unaware of the dangerous situation.

Etymology[]

The name Davina (də-VEE-nə) originated in Scotland as a feminine form of the name David[1]. The Hebrew דָּוִד (Dawid) comes from the Hebrew דּוֹד (dod) which means "beloved" or "uncle."[2]

Swift comes from the English surname, originally a nickname for a swift/fast runner from the Old English swift "swift, fleet, quick." It also can be from an Irish surname that is the Anglicized form of Ó Fuada "descendant of Fuada." Fuada is derived from fuadach which means "wind-blown, pulsating, plundering."[3] Notable people with this surname include Jonathan Swift (essayist/satirist) and Taylor Swift (country and pop music star).

Trivia and Behind the Scenes[]

  • There is a fairly large age gap between Davina and the second youngest, Hawthorne (approx. 9-10 years). The rest of her siblings are only a few years apart from each other.
  • Given the more than usually specific information we have been given about her age[4][5] we can entertain the possibility that Davina was born on Spring's Eve, Winter of Ten, Age of Southern Influence — exactly one year before Eventide.
